  • about my solo

My solo is based off my name. I feel like there is so much more to you than simply the meaning of our name. Since there was no great significance to my name my solo is about me and my extreme passion for dance. Although dance is a huge part of who I am today after high school I will definitely not be dancing as much as I am now because of the field I dream of entering. So my solo is about me in the process of saying goodbye to dance and hello to the police academy. The hardest thing about creating my video was creating the transitions. I wanted them to be a certain way and when they wouldn't turn out the way I wanted it I'd have to restart. For my dance career making this video helped me a lot. I learned that Dancing for the camera can hold just as much meaning as dancing on stage. I plan on making more videos and I want it to have the same type of transitions but a different story. I will also add more supporting details to my story. Over all this process was super fun and I'm ready for more. Hope you enjoy. -McKenzie Mehling

My name is McKenzie Mehling, I currently dance with The Glow Dance Company and on Centennial Dance Fusion. I never thought I'd ever be a dancer to be honest I actually have always wanted to be an Olympic gymnast. I did gymnastics for about 5-6 years until I broke a growth plate in my hand and had to take a break for about 8 weeks. My coach told me that I should consider easing back into gymnastics by taking dance classes. I started with jazz, acro, and ballet. I totally fell in love with it and have been doing it ever since. I have now been dancing for 7 years. My very first dance teacher told our team that some of the best years of her life were spent on her high school dance team. She said she went to centennial and was on centennial dance fusion. Which happened to be the public school I was zoned for. I was currently attending a charter school dancing with their dance program, but it just was not the right fit. So I decided to tryout for dace fusion not thinking anything of it. I ended up making the team transferring schools and loving it.
This year some of my goal would be things like adding more turns to my max, or having things very consistent.  These goals are important to me, because they are the type of goal you cant ever perfect so I'm always striving to be better. To accomplish these goals I'll establish a solid reliable schedule of times i can work on my goals. I'd like to set the goal of working with each other to dance as a whole, even with the people we've never danced with before as a team goal.

After I finish high school I'd like to always dance in my free time, maybe even become a dance teacher so dance is always a part of my life. Ultimately I'd like to become a police officer and would be attending the explores program fresh out of high school. To enter the metro police academy I do have to be 21 so while I wait I'll probably attend CSN and get a degree in crime and justice. I'm excited to see where this journey takes me. Thank You!
